Dads 'n' Daughters Night Out

Ever notice how it can be so easy to find things to do with your son?  You are both guys, and probably like the same things, after all, he wants to be just like you.  When it comes to spending time with your daughter, though, it can become a bit more challenging.  It can be difficult to get jacked up for the make-believe tea party, or the playing with Barbie dolls.  Often, dads tend to not engage in as much meaningful activity with their daughters as they do with their sons.  That what Mom is for, right?  Wrong!

Fathers have proven, time and again, to be vital in the lives of their daughters.  In fact, girls who have fathers who are not involved in their lives are significantly more likely to get pregnant at an early age.  She is just searching for love, and unfortunately, doesn’t know what real love is, so she believes the first boy who tells her what love is...and we all know what boys are after, right, dads?  We were teenagers once, too.

But it shouldn’t be like that.  Our girls need as much attention as our boys do, and they deserve it.  I would love to introduce you all to an outstanding event put on each year by the Barrie Pregnancy Resource Centre, called “Dads ‘n’ Daughters Night Out”.  At this event, you and your daughter get dressed up and enjoy a wonderfully prepared meal, watch some great entertainment, and partake in a live and silent auction with awesome items up for bid.  The purpose of the night is to fund-raise for the Barrie Pregnancy Resource Centre.  You may wonder why REAL DADS would promote up with such an organization.  Simply put, this organization tries to present alternatives to abortion, while supporting some of our most vulnerable people.  And REAL DADS is all about fighting for what is right.  A REAL DAD does not sit back and shake his head and tsk-tsk the notion of abortion, or wonder where the girl went wrong, or the boy for that matter.  A REAL DAD stands up and fights against that which he deems wrong in society.  In this case, it is about supporting an organization that has dedicated itself to doing something about a social wrong.  It is also about supporting those who are in need with nowhere to turn.  A REAL DAD doesn’t lecture, turn his back, or say that he is glad it is not his daughter, because the truth is, it could be your daughter!

REAL DADS don’t sit back, they stand up and say, “How can I help?”  It’s about taking action and not being passive.  Men have been passive for far too long.  We can have a significant role in reducing unplanned pregnancies, simply by being REAL DADS.

So, how can I help?
